Jedi Night: A Major Case of the Feels

Spoilers for the latest episode of Star Wars: Rebels below. PLEASE see the episode before you read, you’re not going to want to be spoiled when it comes to this reveal.

Wow wow wow.

It’s amazing how when Dave Filoni wants to pull out all the stops, he pulls out all the stops. I felt more emotions in the final three minutes of this episode than I did during the entirety of The Last Jedi.

In what might be one of the most moving scenes of the entire series, even better than the Darth Maul vs Obi-Wan Kenobi showdown, Hera finally tells Kanan that she’s in love with him. He looks visibly nervous and says that it’s just the truth serum talking, but Hera assures him that this is “all me.”

They kiss, and Ezra and Sabine drop in just in time to save the day. Unfortunately, Governor Pryce orders her men to fire on the fuel pod they are escaping on, and an explosion immediately occurs. Hera has already made it on board, but Kanan quickly turns around to stop the explosion.

I’m not quite sure why Ezra couldn’t have pulled him on board using the Force while he was still holding off the explosion, but fans have been speculating that Kanan was going to die for quite a while, and this was honestly one of the most memorable and emotionally painful ways to go out. After seasons of teasing the will-they-won’t-they with Hera, their love is finally confirmed, only to disappear before her very eyes.

And speaking of eyes, it seems that the Force restores Kanan’s eyes at the final moment, allowing him to see Hera one last time before he uses the last of his Force energy to push them away from the explosion, sacrificing himself so that they can live.

But this brings up an interesting point. In the first preview, we see Ezra talking to a wolf with blue eyes. Considering that all of the wolves have had yellow eyes up until that point, it seems strange that this one would have blue eyes unless it was significant. Considering Kanan’s weird connection with the wolves and their whispering “Dume” throughout last season, could it be possible that we’re going to see Kanan again later in the season?

I hope so. Right now it sees that the fate of everyone except Hera and Chopper, who have been seen in a post-Endor Forces of Destiny clip, is up in the air, especially Ezra’s. Knowing Filoni, he’s going to make sure that this series finale is one that we’re never going to forget. If it’s anything like the end of this episode, I’m looking forward to it.
